Utility-scale and commercial & industrial PV plants, placed on the map from public records. Residential systems are never plotted one by one: they appear only as totals by country and area. Each figure on this page is read from a published data file. Sources and licences are named in the tables and in the source register.
Privacy. Residential systems are not published point by point, and no owner, address or household location appears anywhere on this page. They are counted only as totals per country and area. A total is published only when it covers at least five systems; smaller areas are withheld.
Attribution. Each plant on the map is attributed to its source in the Plants table. The attribution text for every dataset is listed under Registries & coverage.
Utility-scale and commercial & industrial plants from public registers and open databases. Each row names its source and licence. The filters narrow the table and the map together.
| Plant | Country | Size | Status | Technology | Source | Licence |
|---|
How to read this table. The table lists the largest plants that match the filters, up to a fixed limit; the line above it gives the total. Plants without a published location appear in the table but not on the map. Capacity is as each source publishes it (DC or AC). Where a source reports only the AC rating, or a gross or unstated basis, the DC capacity is estimated from it and marked ESTIMATED. This page shows capacity from public register records. Planned and unknown-status plants are included unless a filter removes them. It does not show measured degradation for individual plants.
Solar share of electricity generation for the ten largest solar markets, ranked by their latest-year solar output. The series come from Ember's yearly compilation of national statistics and grid data, listed under Registries & coverage.
Coverage grades (ESTIMATED). Each grade runs from A, the strongest, to D, the weakest, and combines registry coverage, source agreement and stale values; they measure data coverage, not the market, and n/a means the data needed is missing. Flags. Not additive: the registry total exceeds the Ember capacity by more than the margin set in the methodology, or sources overlap. When a country is flagged not additive, counts from different sources are not additive and must not be added together. Stale capacity: the Ember capacity value is unchanged from the year before. Capacity factor out of range: the implied capacity factor falls outside the expected band. Registry kWp mixes DC and AC as each source publishes it, and the Ember capacity basis is not verified. The methodology gives the thresholds.
| Country | Year | Solar share (%) | Solar output (TWh) | Coverage grade | Ember capacity year |

How to read this chart. Each value is Ember's published solar share for that year, given as a fraction of total generation and shown here in percent. The chart shows electricity generation, not installed capacity. The methodology explains each series.
National solar generation for Great Britain by calendar month, for the last 36 complete months. Sheffield Solar's PV_Live model estimates each month from a sample of PV systems. The values are modelled estimates, not metered totals.

| Month | Generation (GWh) |
|---|
How to read this chart. Each point is the modelled solar generation of Great Britain in one calendar month, in gigawatt-hours (GWh), and every point is labelled with its month. Only complete months are plotted; the newest month is left out while the source file still shows it as incomplete. The values are modelled, not metered. On a narrow screen the chart scrolls sideways so that every month keeps its label.
A registry cell groups the systems of one country, one area and one size class. For each cell this table gives the number of systems and their mean capacity. Pick a country and a size class to see its cells. Cells with fewer than five systems are withheld, and residential cells appear only with at least ten systems.
| Cell | Systems | Mean kWp | Size position (%) |
|---|
Size position. The position places a cell among the cells of the same country and size class, from 0 for the smallest mean system size to 100 for the largest. It describes size only. It is not a judgement of performance: a higher position does not mean that the systems in a cell work better. Positions and the summary line appear only where a country and size class have at least 20 cells.
Names. A cell shows an area name only where its register publishes geographic area names. Every other cell is listed as unnamed cell. No owner, address or household appears in this table.
Area totals group residential, commercial and utility-scale systems by country, area level and size class. Each total is shown only when it meets the publication minimum. Where a register publishes area names, the Area names column lists up to three of the largest named areas in each total; a blank cell means the register gives no name. Capacity is as each source publishes it (DC or AC), and the source register lists each basis. Counts from different sources can overlap: where a country is flagged not additive in the coverage table, do not add its counts across sources. The source register lists the datasets behind this observatory, with the licence and attribution each one requires.

OpenStreetMap rows. These are cells aggregated from OpenStreetMap generator objects; 454 complete cells are published, others are not shown. Every OpenStreetMap row carries the credit © OpenStreetMap contributors, ODbL 1.0, and derived extracts are offered under the ODbL.

Licences. Each source keeps its own licence and attribution, shown on its row. Derived extracts keep the licence of the source they come from. Where a licence requires attribution, the attribution text is the one listed here.
